SPEAKERS & PANELISTS:
Walt Carter Chief Information Officer Generation Mortgage Company
With more than twenty-five years in technology leadership roles, his background includes positions managing IT teams and delivery teams at software and services companies as well as leading consulting groups. He has grown and transformed businesses, their customers and teams. Adept at working on technology challenges at both large and small companies, Walt is frequently asked to speak to professional groups on the topics of IT governance, risk management and compliance.
After earning a BS in Physics from Guilford College, he began his career as a technical officer in the US Air Force, and over the years he has served in a variety of technology leadership roles with companies such as Fidelity, Gannett Corporation, TRW, Spherion, Ajilon Consulting and RM Battle. Walt earned a Master’s degree in Public and Private Administration from Central Michigan University in 1991. While at TRW, he won the President's Award for his leadership on their largest commercial project. Walt makes his home just outside of Atlanta, Georgia with his wife Eileen and their four children.
Jon Ramsey, CTO Executive Director Counter Threat Unit Dell Secure Works
Jon Ramsey is the Dell SecureWorks Chief Technology Officer and Executive Director of the Dell SecureWorks Counter Threat UnitSM (CTU). The CTU Research Group is comprised of the nation’s top security experts who identify and analyze emerging cyber threats, while developing rapid countermeasures in support of clients worldwide. An information security expert with policy-making responsibility, Jon has over 20 years of hands-on experience at every level: system administrator, software engineer, analyst, security penetration specialist and senior engineer. Prior to joining Dell SecureWorks, Jon worked for the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT/CC) at Carnegie Mellon University, Siemens Corporate Research, and the University of Pittsburgh. Jon earned a Master’s degree in software engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Ramsey prefers to follow a security policy of not sharing his photo publicly.
Thomas Stanley Vice President Infrastructure Operations LexisNexis
Thomas Stanley manages the infrastructure for LexisNexis Risk Solutions. He has been involved in Data Center Optimization, Big Data, and Cost Optimization in this role. Tom has over 25 years of Information Technology (IT) experience spanning the software development lifecycle and focusing on continuous operations. He was a co-founder of Tactics, Inc., a 250 person consulting firm specializing in Oracle Financials deployment and Oracle database administration. He applied what he learned at Tactics as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Medcenterdirect, a supply side optimization Application Service Provider (ASP) for the healthcare industry. This experience led to various consulting opportunities building on storage and database technologies. Now at LexisNexis., Tom leads the data center operations teams for three datacenters. He has been instrumental in driving down hardware and support costs there. Tom has a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science from Olivet Nazarene University. LexisNexis(R) helps law enforcement, intelligence, revenue and social services agencies in the government industry enhance investigations, derive insight from complex data sets, and combat fraud, waste and abuse.
Martin W. (Marty) Smith CIO Implantable Provider Group
Marty is a seasoned IT executive who brings 30 years of experience to his role as IPG's Chief Information Officer (CIO). Over his successful career, Marty has created technology strategies for multiple high-growth ventures including ChoicePoint, Home Depot and TheraTx. As CIO of ChoicePoint, Smith presided over a technology strategy that supported millions of insurance, public record, background and drug-screening inquiries per day. Smith was also part of the leadership team in the technology department at The Home Depot during their highest growth years. He helped create the infrastructure that supported the company during a time when it opened a new store every 23 hours, hired 400 people per day and handled over 1,000 register transactions per second. At TheraTx, a health care services company, Smith created the technology infrastructure to support more than 700 clinics nationwide by charting nearly 10,000 patient visits per day. Marty enjoys cooking and outdoor activities including camping, freshwater fly-fishing and saltwater deep sea fishing. Marty has four children, and lives with his wife, Lynn, in Roswell, Ga.
